Before heading off to summer vacation, David and I managed to play a small-scale game of Kings of War Historical. We pulled out our tiny 15mm metal Romans and Carthaginian and set them up on a small self made game mat.

We decided to align them along the outside edges of the mat, since it’s lacking some width to correspond exactly to a half size 6×4 board. By the way, we built our armies for De Bellis Antiquitatis (short: DBA) in the first place. Being left too confused by our first games, we used them for Kings of War, a game we are quite familiar with.
My units were quite the under performers that night. But, two of my slinger regiments managed to instantly kill an undamaged unit of warriors. Thus, my cheapest units were the only efficient ones.

My elephants couldn’t really advance and were constantly outmaneuvered by their opponents. Hence, they didn’t do much damage to David’s Romans, except killing a cheap troop of his skirmishers. After that my elephants were killed. My most expensive unit … gone.
This game of Kings of War Historical quickly became a big slaughter fest on a small-scale! David’s Romans were mowing down my men unit after unit. I was only able to take out a couple of his units, with the aforementioned slingers.
Disaster in 15 mm
We played 7 rounds (6+1) in total. At the end of that round, I had only my brave General left on the battle field.
It’s about time my general earns a proper name.
He shall henceforth be known as Honeyball, the Great!

Us not in the mood for alcohol, this game was sponsored by cold mineral water.

My army shattered entirely, leaving for summer holiday offered a merciful escape from this absolute, crushing, but funny tabletop disaster.
