Our 5 year anniversary posting marathon being closed (huge thanks to everyone), it’s time for our annual summer break. Summer has a way of slowing hobby related activities down. The days grow longer, the evenings stretch well beyond sunset, and our carefully planned hobby schedules often give way to family holidays, garden projects, barbecues, and spontaneous adventures. While the painting desk may gather a little dust, that doesn’t mean the hobby has stopped. It has simply changed its pace for a short time.
For many of us, summer offers something just as valuable as time at the gaming table:
Inspiration
A walk through an ancient castle, a visit to a local museum, or even a quiet afternoon in the countryside can spark ideas for a new campaign, a fresh terrain project, or the backstory of an entirely new warband. History and nature surround us, and the best hobby ideas often appear when we’re least expecting them.
Of course, not every project needs to be ambitious. A small travel painting kit (or this one), a single miniature tucked into a suitcase, or finally reading that rulebook that’s been sitting on the shelf for months can keep the creative spark alive. Sometimes stepping away from the workbench is exactly what we need to return with renewed enthusiasm. But, don’t forget to pack a game or two, like the portable Battletech kit. Also be sure to carry that hobby journal with you when inspiration strikes.
Summer is also the perfect time to reconnect with friends. Whether it’s introducing someone new to miniature wargaming, enjoying a relaxed skirmish in the garden, or simply discussing future projects over a cold drink, our hobby has always been about more than painted miniatures. It’s about the stories we create and the company we share.
When autumn eventually arrives, the painting lamps will switch back on, dice will roll across our tables, and unfinished projects will once again demand our attention. But for now, enjoy the slower rhythm of the season.
