Before heading south to our vacation destinations, we spontaneously got a game of OnePageRules Grimdark Future Firefight going last Sunday evening.

I finally sat down and remade my list for my Ashwaste Nomads in order to use them for the first time on the tabletop battlefield. In addition to that, we finally managed to try out the first scenario our of John Lambshead’s excellent little book Sci-fi Skirmish Scenarios. I’ll review that book in the future.

Mission Briefing

In this first scenario, Strut Your Stuff, a water well/fountain/source is positioned at the center of the table on an open ruined city square and counts as the game’s objective. The game lasts your usual number of rounds minus 1. For One Page Rules that means 4 rounds minus 1 equals 3 rounds. After the 3rd round you’ll need to roll a D6 and depending on the result, the game either ends immediately or goes on. Being in the square is risky business, since your units are on open ground there. It’s all bout decimating as much as possible your opponent before risking the run to control the fountain. It turned out to be a very cleverly thought out mission perfectly tailored for OnePageRules Grimdark Future Firefight.

Getting in position

As mentioned I fielded my ten Ashwaste Nomads (as a Hive City Gang with Nomads traits). They were set out to deviate the water from the fountain, but a highly trained detachment of David’s ICMP, the Imperial Commonwealth Military Police (Human Defense Force), was informed about the run and was determined to prevent a potential drought in a nearby settlement.

Both sides had their sniper recruited. We positioned both our sniper gunners on high ground and in line of sight to each other. Thus immediately in the first round my Nomad sniper hit David’s ICMP sniper and managed to stun him.

One of my Gunners got knocked out by the ICMP Flame Thrower. My Dust Nomad Veteran Gunner with his shotgun killed two ICMP soldiers in turn. First blood!

In the second round, the Ashwaste Nomads, as well as the ICMP, readied themselves to storm the fountain at the ruined city square.

The run for the Fountain

An ICMP Human Defense Force Infantry Squad sadly knocked out my Rocket Man. On the other hand, my Veteran Gunner put his shotgun to good use to finally kill David’s flame thrower unit.

In the 3rd round all hell broke loose on the square and units got involved in shooting and melee combat, all at once.

At the end of round 3, we rolled a 1 on a D6, bringing the game to an immediate end. ICMP then had the most troops at the water fountain. My Ashwaste Nomads at that point were already heavily decimated and had as good as no chance to win that mission.

Thus it was David’s ICMP that won the game in the end!

This game of OnePageRules Grimdark Firefight turned out be very cinematic and yet extremely tactical. Both aspects we really enjoy in a game. And we like pancakes.


My wife brought us some tasty rations to the gaming basement.

After the game, we managed to get some Brawl Arcane 28 action going. It’s the perfect game to fit in after a larger tabletop battle.

And now, we’re off to our respective holiday destinations!
